Arrest and prosecute anyone caught buying PVCs –
APC tells INEC
The Cross Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has called on INEC to arrest and prosecute those alleged to be buying PVCs.
APC also called on other law enforce agencies to join INEC in bringing to justice those alleged to be buying PVCs in the state. The APC secretary in Cross Rivers, Mr Victor Ebong in an interview on Thursday said, “The PDP has been going about buying PVCs from members of the electorate with the aim of manipulating the polls in their favour. What they do is to go about purchasing these PVCs in our stronghold. “In fact we hear that they are targeting at least 20 members of the electorate from our stronghold who are actually our supporters and sympathizers and if you multiply that figure by the 2,283 polling units across the state, you know what number of people would have been disenfranchised as a result of the manipulation of their names and data in the card reader mechanism. “Giving out your PVC means you have sold your birthright to the devil for a porridge of beans and it only remains what you’ll tell your conscience when the celebration of change comes up that you did not participate in.” The APC chairman in the state, Mr Usani Usani, described the collection and purchase of PVCs as “criminal and antithetical to democratic successes in the country.” However, in reaction to the allegations, the state PDP chairman, Mr. John Okon, said the allegation was not true, adding that the APC had resorted to propaganda after failing to campaign in any local government area ahead of the elections. Okon said, “If they think we are buying PVCs let them go and buy as well. They are not campaigning in Cross River State, yet they are making noises. I am sure they are making noise for their leaders at the national level to think they are working. We (PDP) have been canvassing for votes from electorate through campaigns. We are not buying PVCs.”
