If you’re not used to being loved, your default position may be to push people away. For example, a reader recently wrote:

I got really close to someone, then I did what I always do, I found the nearest exit and sprinted away to the single life.

Been doing this forever. As soon as the other person really loves me, I fight, flee or freeze.

In my family, I never felt good enough and always failed to make my parents proud. Feeling unloved and trusting very few people, I find it’s easier to stand alone.

Vulnerability goes against my grain, so when I do fall in love, I never let it last long. For the life of me, I can’t let someone love me!

Misunderstandings are bound to happen in any relationship. With your partner. With your kids. With your family and friends. With your colleagues. This is normal and natural.

Sometimes, we might let a slew of small irritations build up, which only triggers resentment and negative feelings over time. It leads us to withdraw from our loved ones, and be less present in our relationships.

Other times we might blurt out our frustration in the heat of the moment, screaming words we might later regret. Neither approach is helpful and can chip away at our relationships.

The scary thing is: You probably don’t even know it’s happening.

The worst part of being manipulated in a relationship is that quite often you don’t even know it’s happening. A manipulative person twist your thoughts, actions, wants and desires into something that better suits how they see the world and they mold you into someone that serves their own purposes. Scary, right?

No fewer than five persons were inured on Wednesday when some Hausa youths at Sabo area of Osogbo allegedly attacked some Yoruba living in their midst.

Are Nigerian Legislators Highest Paid In The World?

A report by The Economist magazine has revealed that Nigerian federal legislators with a basic salary of $189,500 per annum (N30.6m) are the highest paid lawmakers in the world.

Quoting data from the International Monetary Fund and The Economist magazine of London, the study looked at the lawmakers’ basic salary as a ratio of the Gross Domestic Product per person across countries of the world.

According to the report, the basic salary (which excludes allowances) of a Nigerian lawmaker is 116 times the country’s GDP per person of $1,600. The $189,500 earned annually by each Nigerian legislator is estimated to be 52 per cent higher than what Kenyan legislators, who are the second highest paid lawmakers, earned.

The National Assembly has, however, rejected the report that its members are the highest paid lawmakers in the world. While reacting to the report, the spokespersons of the two chambers of the National Assembly described it as grossly exaggerated.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Media, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, said the report was misleading and incorrect. He said it was easy for anyone to verify what Nigerian lawmakers earned given that such information could be obtained from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

Abaribe said, “My reaction is that the report is incorrect. It is very easy for anybody to know what we earn by going to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.”

Eight cast members from a reality TV show were killed Monday when two helicopters collided mid-air over Argentina, according to multiple media reports. Two pilots also died.

The cast members — all French nationals — were filming a survival series called “Dropped” in the rugged mountains of the La Rioja province of the South American country, reported the Guardian.

“Apparently, the two helicopters collided as they were filming. There are no survivors,” provincial spokesman Horacio Alarcon said. Weather conditions were reportedly good and the reason for the crash is still unknown.

Among the dead are champion sailor Florence Arthaud, Olympic gold medalist swimmer Camille Muffat and Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine. In addition to the contestants, two Argentine pilots were killed.

“Dropped,” which was to air on French television channel TF1, involved eight sports stars being dropped into inhospitable environments for the survival-themed reality series.

Shooting began in late February in Ushuaia, at the southern tip of South America in the glacial landscape of Patagonia, and then moved to the mountainous La Rioja region.

The wreckage from the crash burned for over four hours after the collision as police and firefighters worked to recover the victims’ bodies.

28 inmates of Ikoyi Prisons to sit for matriculation exam
